Monthly Archive for December, 2008

A stroll in Helsinki.

Business takes me to Finland every year in December and its an interesting town of half a million souls. Walking around at night, the streets away from the center are strangely quiet.  Its a moody place by the sea with  large open squares and cobbled streets.  I used a fast 50mm lens to capture most of these scenes.

November’s Competition - Song Titles

Here with my entries and the results

train.jpg

This one was called Night Train by James Brown and my favorite shot of the month.  I hung around train bridges to get the shot in the wind and rain but I was pleased with the results.

black-cat.jpg

This shot was called Black Cat by Jimmy Smith and came 4th out of 120 entries.  The cat is one of mine and his name is Sultan.  I captured him getting off the rocking chair by dropping the camera to the floor and pointing it into his face.  Love the expression.

This shot was perhaps the weirdest of this month`s entries and is basically chopped out of the train photo and flipped.  If you look in large you`ll see the word Hastings from the front of the train as it went by.  I called it Goin Home by Elvis.

black-crow.jpg

This one is called Black Crow by Joni Mitchell.  I like the sharp focus of the bird and the blurred background.

river.jpg

This shot was most pleasing.  Its title was River by Joni Mitchell.  It was actually taken on a bright day but took it on a quick exposure to give it that moody feel.

light.jpg

Lastly Ray of Light by Madonna.  Just love these types of shot with light spilling through the clouds.

I am off to Finland this month on business so I will be trying out a new low light lens that I purchased today.  I look forward to the results.
