Download Festival and The Urban Voodoo Machine

It was a blistering show for The Urban Voodoo Machine at Download on Saturday. It was a relatively early slot but the Redbull Stage filled up quickly when the band came on. It was a 25 minute set that had the crowd shouting and clapping all the way through. Follow these links to the facebook albums.

Gypsy Hotel NYE

Well its been a week of snow and I’ve been hard at work sorting out my massive photo library. Some measure of organisation is forming so look forward to plenty of new stuff.

So Gypsy Hotel ran a new years eve night at Bardens in London and it was a intimate and fun affair. We had various act, including live music from, Ria Green, Rasp Thorne, Matt Millership and The Urban Voodoo Machine, and dark cabaret from Captian Howdy’s Flying Circus, Suri Sumatra, Lady Ane Angel and Lalla Morte with Chris Martin.  Everyone was on top form BUT THE URBAN VOODOO MACHINE were just inspiring, giving everyone a huge treat, filling the stage and managing to move around plenty despite the squeeze, for more than two hours.

All the performers stood up and gave us a little Midnight show which was a treat. Here a few shots and a gallery of performers and portraits. Follow the links below for facebook albums and links to more Urban Voodoo Machine photos on their website.
Happy New Year and lets hope 2010 is the start to a great decade.

The Pogues

December 2009 saw The Pogues play Brixton Academy and I was lucky enough to get a photo pass through Spider Stacey who I met on Holiday in Norway this year. Thank you Spider and Louise.

At these larger gigs you take photos from the pit, the small space between the stage and the crowd. The rules are usually first three songs with no flash, then all the photographers get escorted out of the main stage and to an office. I guess usually the photographers then leave but I wanted to see the show too. So I had to leave my cameras in the office. It took the staff about ten minutes to convince me my cameras would be safe and then I finally got to see the show. Cracking night. Click for larger pics.

Studio Time with Dr Will

The Urban Voodoo Machine are hard a work on their next album, and last Friday I caught up with PR Angel and Dr. Will and his band in the studio. It was great to be witness to some of the magic happening as Dr. Will recorded some backing vocals for the UVM’s album. It all finished off with a unplanned B Side track that was great to witness and I even joined in with a whistle or two. Follow the link below for more photos on the band’s site.

Enjoy these photos of the session.

Nightingale Sisters

Last week I caught up with the Nightingale Sisters at the lovely Mary Jane venue in Tower Hill, London.  The girls sang for over an hour at this christmas event and added a sense of style with their classic show tunes.

Charlene Weston and Deborah Wilkins make up the duo and are The Timeless Beauties. The Nightingale Sisters is only one of their many themed acts. Thanks to both the girls for the invite.

New York Dolls

Finally here with the New York Dolls pictures from the recent gig at the HMV Forum London.

The dolls were great and the crowd loved the show.  Those of the Dolls I met were all very lovely guys.

The Urban Voodoo Machine and The New York Dolls

Friday 4th of December saw the Urban Voodoo Machine support the legendary New York Dolls.  I was thrilled to personally meet some of the dolls backstage.  The Voodoo Machine were on fire and played an amazing show to an appreciative crowd.  No pictures of the Dolls in this post but will save it for the future and include a few backstage shots.

Open Mic Uk Finals

Saturday 28th November saw the finals for the Open Mic Uk competition in Portsmouth’s Guildhall.  I was invited along by DistractTV for the 18 to 24 year old category.  Its was great event and I had lots of fun shooting the show from upstairs.  I had the floor to myself which was a real bonus.  The standard was high but I think the winner was well chosen.  Links below to Distract TV and a free photo gallery of the night.  Get in touch if you want hi res versions or prints.  Thanks to Gita and Abid for the pizza! Fantastic to work with you both.
